As of the 2009 census report, Sugarloaf's population is 4,656 people. Since the prior census in 2000, it has had a population growth of 7.00 percent, this in spite of the cost of living in Sugarloaf is about 3.74% higher than the US average. It's also higher than many of the neighboring communities, although this could be attributed in part due to higher cost of newer homes, as well as real estate taxes in this area.
The unemployment rate in Sugarloaf is also higher than might be expected, however, it could be speculated that many of the higher end homes are occupied by single wage earner families.
With most of the areas large employers in and around Hazleton, travel time to work is also a bit higher than the local average, although not prohibitive.
