Demographics and Statistics for
McAdoo, Pennsylvania
McAdoo is a borough in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States, 5 miles (8 km) south of Hazleton and 7 miles north of Tamaqua. In the past, anthracite coal mining and a shirt factory, The McAdoo Manufacturing Company, provided gainful employment to the populace, which numbered 2,122 in 1900. In 1910, 3,389 people lived here, and in 1940, 5,127 people lived here. The population then declined and was 2,274 at the 2000 census.
The population decline is deceiving, however, since several tinier communities have sprouted up around McAdoo, thereby spreading out the population. Some of these patch towns include Kelayres, McAdoo Heights, Haddock, Silverbrook and Beaver Brook.
The schools in McAdoo are part of the Hazleton Area School District. Worth noting, is the McAdoo - Kelayres Elementary School has received a rating of 5 out of 5 stars by local parents, according to GreatSchools.net.
Median household income in McAdoo has risen dramatically from the 2000 census, perhaps due to new manufacturing plants that have opened in nearby Hazleton, PA. Travel time to work is a short 15 to 20 minute ride via the interstate to get to those industrial facilities.
